Style attempts

Hierbij stijloefeningen in zwart-wit.

Winter, when bright light is scarce, is the time to take up graphical work. Herewith style attempts in black and white.

Embryonic stages

This year the blog postings took off with the image of a larval stage. I completed now the series of embryonic stages, as demonstrated on the development of the mollusc Tiedemannia neapolitana / Gleba cordata (B 360)

Mollusc embryonic stages from fertilised egg over trochophore larva and veliger larva to the adult.

Hendrik Petrus Berlage & Ernst Haeckel

The Dutch architect H.P. Berlage (1856-1934) was honoured with an exhibition that claims to present the “Total Berlage” – which it doesn’t.  Berlage’s reception of Ernst Haeckel’s “Kunstformen der Natur” is poorly represented.

Happy New Year of the Rabbit!

According to the Chinese calendar, today  the Year of the Rabbit began.
To highlight this, I show the image of the Sea Hare.
A less current name for this kind of seaslug is Sea Rabbit.
So it is in key!

Aplysia leporina (B490), watercolour, 2009 (40 x 30 cm)

“from amoeba to man”…

Tiedemannia, fertilised egg, watercolour 2011 (20 x 30)

Last week I became a granduncle.  A living organism starts off as a fertilised egg cell and this image easily triggers truisms like “from amoeba to man”…
