Linearity II

Pictured are subsequent larval stages in Physophora magnifica, a colony building jellyfish species. The glass models series as shown in the photograph is linear. My  watercolour shows an loose arrangement of the embryonic shapes. The question might be: what is organic? Model series of the siphonophore  Physophora magnifica,  based on illustrations by  Ernst Haeckel. Shown is the series from the collection  of the Utrecht University Museum.  Similar series are preserved in the  collections of Vienna University,  Cornell University and the  Museum of Comparative Zoology of Harvard University.

Embryonic stages

This year the blog postings took off with the image of a larval stage. I completed now the series of embryonic stages, as demonstrated on the development of the mollusc Tiedemannia neapolitana / Gleba cordata (B 360)

New year metaphor

Bij het begin van dit jaar een metafoor:
Een trochophora larve is een vroeg ontwikkelingsstadium van zowel schaaldieren als wormen. Evenzo zien we te zijner tijd wel wat het nieuwe jaar ons brengt.

At the start of this year a metaphor:
A trochophore larva is an early developmental stage of both molluscs and worms. Likewise, in due time we will see what the new year will bring.
