The Common Octopus (B 577)

Octopus vulgaris (Common octopus) - Indian Ink wash & watercolour 2013  (c. 21 x 30 cm)

Recently, circumstances in my personal life interfered with my intentions to paint.
So this summer passed without composing colour images.
Now the days shorten, and I take up working in black and white again.
Let me start with the Common Octopus,
thus resuming the theme of my previous blog message.

Underwater landscape of Crespo Island

I took the illustration  “Underwater landscape of Crespo Island” from the 1871 edition of Vingt mille lieues sous les mers (Twenty thousand leagues under the seas), by Jules Verne, illustrated by Édouard Riou and Alphonse de Neuville.

Blaschka meets Verne, Watercolour  2013 (c. 50x70 cm)

This image served as an incentive to create a new underwater fantasy.
It features Blaschka animals, that seem to feel very much at home in Verne’s environment.
